Man Arrested for Alleged Casteist and Threatening Remarks Against Priyank Kharge on Facebook

Karkala, June 7, 2026: Karkala Town Police have arrested a 48-year-old man for allegedly posting casteist, derogatory and threatening comments against Karnataka Home Minister Priyank Kharge on Facebook.

According to police, a complaint was filed by Suresh of Chetanahalli, Attur, Nitte, after he noticed objectionable comments on a Facebook post shared by an account named “NAMMA KARLA”. The post reportedly featured a photograph of the minister along with a statement related to the RSS.

Police said the accused, identified as Sudhir Bangera of Nalkeda Bettu, Kervashe, Karkala, allegedly posted a comment on June 6 containing derogatory remarks directed at the minister and offensive references to his Scheduled Caste background.

The complaint further alleged that the comments were intended to promote hostility, hatred and insult among different groups, thereby disturbing social harmony. It also accused Bangera of making caste-based remarks and issuing threats through the social media platform.

Based on the complaint, Karkala Town Police registered a case and took the accused into custody. He will be produced before the jurisdictional court.
