MU vice chancellor inaugurates annual police sports meet

Mangalore, Dec 29, 2011: Prof. T. C. Shivashankarmurthy, the vice chancellor of Mangalore University, inaugurated the annual sports meet jointly organized by the DK District Police and the Mangalore City Police on Dec 29 Thursday. 

The event was inaugurated when the chief guests on the dais released a pigeon and a balloon into the air.

In his inaugural address, the vice chancellor of Mangalore University said that the sports meet will help showcase talents and develop the spirit of sportsmanship among the police personnel who are otherwise busy in their duties. 

SP Labhuram and Mangalore City Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh were also present.

The valedictory ceremony will be held on Dec 30 Friday with Pratap Reddy, the IGP of Western Range, as the chief guest. 

The 2-day sports event will comprise 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, and 1500m race, 4x100m relay, shot put, javelin throw, discus throw, long jump, hammer throw, high jump, and triple jump for men and 100m and 200m race, long jump, discus throw, and high jump for women. The event will also comprise volley ball, tug of war, and kabbaddi.
