MRPL distributes personal hygiene kits to bedridden endosulfan victims

Mangaluru, July 5, 2025: For the fourth successive year, the Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) distributed personal hygiene kits to bedridden endosulfan victims in Dakshina Kannada district.

On Thursday, a team of MRPL officers and the district officials of the Health Department visited eight houses with bedridden endosulfan victims in Puttur taluk and handed over kits. In another seven days, the kits will be delivered to all 210 bedridden victims in Puttur, Belthangady, Bantwal, Sullia, and Mangaluru taluks, an official from the office of the District Endosulfan Nodal Officer said.

The personal hygiene kit contained, among other items, a toothbrush, toothpaste, a bath towel, shampoo, and floor cleaner. The kit also contained packets of dry fruits. The kit was provided by MRPL through its CSR funds as part of the firm’s Swachhata Pakhwada activities.

There were 54 bedridden victims in Puttur taluk, 55 in Belthangady, 42 in Sullia, 31 in Mangaluru and 28 in Bantwal taluks.

MRPL general manager Prashanth Baliga, District Endosulfan Nodal Officer Jacintha D’Souza, and Puttur Taluk Health Officer Deepak Rai were part of the team that visited houses and distributed kits in Puttur taluk on Thursday.

Victims


The District Health Department has identified 4,350 endosulfan victims in Dakshina  Kannada. Of this, 2,908 victims, including 210 who are bedridden and have disability of more than 60%, have been receiving a monthly pension of ₹4,000. As many as 957 victims, whose disability was between 25% and 60%, have been receiving a pension of ₹2,000.
