
Mangaluru, October 1, 2026: Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) has announced financial assistance and insurance benefits totalling approximately ₹1.20 crore for the family of Manish Karkada, who died in the fire incident at the company’s Coker Hydrotreater Unit (CHTU) on September 30.
In a statement, MRPL expressed grief over Karkada’s death and conveyed its condolences to his family and loved ones.
The company said it will provide ₹90 lakh in financial assistance to the bereaved family. In addition, the family will be eligible for approximately ₹10 lakh under the Group Term Life Insurance (GTLI) and ₹20 lakh under the Workmen Compensation Policy (WCP).
Together, the financial assistance and insurance benefits are expected to amount to approximately ₹1.20 crore, MRPL said.
Regarding mediclaim insurance for the secondary workforce, MRPL said a proposal is currently being drafted and is under discussion. The company said the arrangement will be finalised after discussions with the Dakshina Kannada MP and the Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner.
MRPL expects the process for the proposed mediclaim arrangement to be completed within approximately four weeks.
The company reiterated its commitment to the safety, health and welfare of all personnel associated with its operations and said it would continue to extend all possible support to the affected family.
