Mangaluru, June 8, 2025: Dakshina Kannada MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta has urged the Urban Development Department to expedite the widening of a narrow, two-lane stretch of Airport Road between Marakada and Maravoor Bridge to address traffic bottlenecks and safety concerns.

Airport Road Stretch

In a letter to Urban Development Minister B.S. Suresh, Capt. Chowta highlighted that while most of the Airport Road is four-lane, this 1 km segment under Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) limits remains a two-lane bottleneck. The MP pointed out that this poorly developed stretch causes frequent traffic jams, increases travel time, and poses safety risks for commuters, including those heading to the airport.

He emphasized the strategic importance of the road as the primary access to Mangaluru International Airport and called for its immediate four-laning and concreting to create a seamless corridor from the city.

Capt. Chowta also urged the department to promptly address the road’s deteriorating condition by filling potholes and restoring surface quality to ensure safer travel until permanent widening work is completed.
