Mangaluru, Aug 3,2017: Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel met Union Minister of State for Railways Manoj Sinha and submitted a memorandum enlisting the several railway demands of Mangaluru.
The memorandum has stressed the need to resume the services of the Mahalakshmi Express the service of which was cancelled during the gauge conversion in 1995. This, the memorandum recalled was the only train that connected Mangaluru to different parts of North Karnataka including Hubballi, Dharwad and Belagavi.
If the train resumes services then it would benefit thousands from North Karnataka region who come to Mangaluru seeking jobs, the memorandum said.
The memorandum also demanded extension of the Superfast train 12132/33 operating on the Mangaluru Junction-Mumbai route to the Mangaluru Central and to run the Mangaluru-Ahmedabad special train on a regular basis
The MP has even sought more funds for the overall development of Mangaluru Railway Station.
