Mangaluru, August 5, 2024: Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta who on Sunday visited Kethikal on the outskirts of the city which is facing fears of landslide, has directed officials to consult experts from NITK Suratkal and NHAI to initiate measures to avert the possibility of landslide in various places of the district.
He said the DC has been asked to hold a co-ordination meeting between various departments to initiate urgent measures.
Pointing out that Kethikal area has private as well as government land apart from a wetwell of KUDCEMP, he said already 10 to 12 families have been shifted to safer places.
The District Administration must conduct a survey to assess the rain related damage in the district and submit a report to the state government immediately, he said and urged the district in-charge minister to ensure release of adequate compensation.
He said it is not enough for the district minister to merely visit the rain affected areas, he must ensure release of compensation.
Mayor Sudhir Shetty Kannur, Additional DC Santosh Kumar, Tahsildar Prashanth and other officials were present.
