Mangalore, Dec 17: The Mangalore Management Association (MMA), affiliated to AIMA, New Delhi, conferred the Outstanding Manager Award 2009 on Dr P Dayanand Pai, the managing director of Century Group, Bangalore at an Awards Ceremony, which was organized in the conference hall of Shree Dharmastala Manjunatheshwara College of Business Management, Mangalore, on Dec 16, Wednesday.

During the felicitation, T G Shenoy read the citation. A Mohan Rao, CGM, Corpration Bank felicitated Dr. Dayanad Pai with a shawl. Manjusha Bhatnagar honored him by garlanding him. Prof J H G Anchen, the treasurer, handed over the emblem and P Ravindra Rao, the joint secretary, offered fruits.

Speaking in appreciation of Mangalore, he said that Mangalore is the birth place of great leaders from whom we have a lot to learn. We ought to consider these leaders as our role models, he said.

Dr. P Dayanand Pai made a speech after receiving the award, in which he said that people must serve society without expecting any honor in return. They must do what is expected of them much better than what is expected, he urged. He said that, people must avoid falling on their knees and praying to God. Instead, they must spend that time on serving the poor and the needy. This will please God more, and He will shower favors on those who serve the needy.

He also said that, in spite of the technological developments of the present world, people lack leadership qualities. Striking a comparison between leader and fire, he said that they have a number of similarities. Just as fire can destroy as well as comfort people, leaders can build as well as destroy a nation, he said.

He said that, when people say that leaders are born and not made, they are fostering a myth. This is a completely false statement because the leaders of the present are made by certain powers.

M Shekar Pujari, the president of MMA, welcomed the gathering. Dr K Devraj spoke about MMA-AIMA. Prof B V Raghunandan and Vice Governor Ln P Kishore Rao introduced chief guests CGM of Corporation Bank A Mohan Rao and Manjusha Bhatnagar, respectively.
