Mangalore, Jan 15: Mangalore MLA and Deputy Speaker N. Yogesh Bhat inaugurated the official website of Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy www.tuluacademy.org at a special function organized at the Academy on Jan 15, Saturday.
In his address, Mr. Bhat said that the previous government had sanctioned Rs. 7 lakh for the development of the Tulu Academy, but the present BJP-led state government has sanctioned Rs. 40 lakh. He also said that he had proposed the construction of a Tulu Bhavana worth Rs. 2 crore.
Brand new Tulu books such as “Bangle Gudde Sannakka,” a compilation of Tulu pad-danas by Poovappa Kaniyoor; “Tuluva Shrikrishna” by Duggappa Kajekar; and “Bharatha Kavyo Pasadi – Part II” by Kamalaksha K. were released by Mayor Rajani Dugganna on the occasion.
Academy President Palthady Ramakrishna Achar said that this is the golden age of the Tulu Academy, adding that creating a website became possible only this year although the government had ordered all academies to start a website long back.
Revealing details about the new website, he said that it includes an introduction to Tulu Nadu, the objectives of the Academy, and a photo gallery. An English version of the website, which is currently in Kannada, will soon be created. The profiles of the winners of the annual prizes of the Academy will also be published. The website will provide the Academy’s background, details of books, administrative details, photo gallery, future events, and so on.
