MLA Kamath urges government to provide housing for poor after hurdles cleared

Mangalore Today News Network

Bengaluru, Aug 21, 2025: Since 2017, poor families have been holding land title deeds with the hope of getting houses, but have been left waiting. Now that all hurdles have been cleared, the government must fulfill this demand under the current year’s Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana 2.0, urged MLA Vedavyas Kamath during the Assembly session.

Back in 2017, the then MLA had distributed title deeds to 930 poor families and even conducted the groundbreaking ceremony in haste. However, as the proposed land was classified as “deemed forest,” the Forest Department imposed restrictions. Since then, families have been left wandering helplessly with their title deeds.

MLA Kamath said, “After I became the representative of this constituency, I consistently held discussions with the government, the Forest Department, and senior officials on behalf of the beneficiaries. Finally, after four years, we succeeded in clearing all the hurdles, including the deemed forest issue, paving the way for the housing project.”

He further added that the Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner has already submitted the proposal to the government, and urged the authorities to act on priority to ensure homes for the poor.

Responding to this, Minister Zameer Ahmed acknowledged, “What the MLA said is correct. Immediate action will be taken in this regard.”
