MBA and BCom syllabi to change – VC Shivshankar Murthy

Mangalore, December 17: Mangalore University Vice Chancellor Prof. Shivashankar Murthy announced that the MBA and BCom syllabi of the university will change with effect from next year. The changes will match modern industry requirements, he added.


MBA and BCom syllabi to change – VC Shivshankar MurthyThe decision to change the MBA and BCom syllabi was taken after the commerce and management faculties pointed out that the syllabus was outdated and has not been modified for the past 5 years. The VC informed reporters that a committee will be formed to discuss the matter and that a workshop will be organized for concerned teachers to list the required changes and propose modifications for the syllabus within the next 2 months. The VC explained that the new syllabi will be presented for approval to the academic council before being sent to the university syndicate for approval.


Major changes such as introduction of projects will have to be submitted to the state government for approval, he said. B. S. Yadapadithaya, the dean of the commerce faculty, who is also the registrar for evaluation, is in favor of syllabi revision, he added.


The university has also made a move to change the credit-based semester system that has been in practice for the past five years. Two batches have already passed out of this system, and the faculty feels the need for changes. A committee formed to revise the system will submit its report in 2 months and the revised regulations will be made functional from the next academic year.


The vice chancellor said that, of the total grants worth Rs. 11.35 crore received during the present academic year, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has sanctioned Rs. 1 crore for ICT-related activities and these funds will be transferred to the PG departments to purchase inverters, computers, and other essentials required by them. The UGC has given these grants only to certain selected universities in India, he explained. 


The university also decided that the university will provide provisional pass certificates for the students of autonomous colleges too, but the autonomous colleges will have to pay the prescribed fee to the university.
