Lone old lady discovered dead in her house

Mangalore, Jun 23: Marie Aranha (76) was found dead at her house in Aranha Compound, Kadri Hills on June 23 Thursday.

The body was almost reduced to a skeleton, which indicates that she must have died at least four months back. The old lady used to live alone.



















Mrs. Aranha’s late husband was in the military and had retired 10 years back. The couple was childless and after her husband’s death, the old lady was all alone, living on her husband’s pension. Her neighbors say that nobody visited her, but she refused to move to an old age home and refused assistance from the church too.

The old lady had 24 cents of land and some gold. Recently, some people had attacked her and fled with her gold ornaments. She had to be admitted to a hospital and lodged a complaint at the local police station with the help of Ganesh, a cable operator.

Although the police urged her to move to an old age home, she refused.

A fortnight ago, some men were caught with ganja near her house. When the police arrested them, they said that there was a dead body inside the house. However, the police did not force the house open and the death was discovered only on this evening.

The lady’s belongings are missing. The body is now in AJ Hospital and a post mortem is being done.
