Mangalore, May 7, 2014: North Police of Mangalore, who registered a case on Monday May 5, made a statement that the MP Mr.Nalin Kumar Kateel in his complaint alleged that the advocate P.P.Hegde of the city obtained the call records and forwarded it to Independent candidate Sudatta Jain — against whom he had earlier filed a case of defamation — in order to malign his image.
Mr. Jain had claimed that the MP had made around 3,600 calls to a woman in a span of two years.
Senior advocate P.P. Hegde denied any involvement in exposing incumbent Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel’s call-gate ahead of Lok Sabha polls. Mr Kateel sitting MP had filed a complaint against Mr Hegde for illegally collecting his cell phone details during the run up to the polls. But, Mr Hegde has termed the entire allegation made against him by Mr Kateel as “baseless”, and added he was being made a “target of politics”.
Mr. Hegde also said that there needed to be an investigation on the allegations of Mr. Jain. Police also said while a notice had been served to Bharti Airtel based on a previous complaint, they have made no arrests so far.
