Mangaluru, Aug 27, 2025: Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations began across the district on Monday with a host of cultural and religious programmes, including bhajans, orchestras, and other festivities that will continue until the immersion of idols.
Following the installation rituals, idols will be carried in grand processions featuring tableaux, traditional drums, and cultural performances before being immersed in wells, ponds, and rivers. Thousands of devotees are expected to take part in the celebrations.
Given that Dakshina Kannada is considered a communally sensitive district, the administration has put precautionary measures in place to prevent any untoward incidents. Deputy Commissioner Darshan H. V. has ordered the closure of all liquor outlets—including bars, wine shops, and retail stores—within the limits of the Mangaluru City Police Commissionerate and Dakshina Kannada District Police on specified days.
The directive is aimed at ensuring the peaceful conduct of installation and immersion processions and preventing disturbances that could arise from alcohol consumption.
