Leopard attacks man in house courtyard in Belthangady

Belthangady, Jan 16, 2026: A leopard attacked and injured a man who was standing in the courtyard of his house at Andeerumaru in Kanyadi 1 village on Thursday morning.

The injured has been identified as Manjappa Naik (62), a resident of Andeerumaru.

According to reports, at around 8:15 a.m., while Manjappa Naik was in the courtyard of his house, a leopard suddenly entered the area and attacked him. He managed to save his life by quickly climbing a nearby areca nut tree.

Manjappa Naik sustained serious injuries to his leg. He is currently undergoing treatment at the Belthangady Government Hospital. Officials from the Belthangady range of the Forest Department have visited the hospital and are conducting an inquiry.
