Leaders cutting across party lines demand death penalty to Sowmya’s killer

Bantwal, Feb 27, 2013: Leaders cutting across party lines who participated in a huge protest organised in front of the Taluk office at BC Road on February 27, Wednesday demanded death penalty to the killer of  Sowmya, a young girl from Baltila who was brutally killed after a vain bid to  outrage her modesty.

Bantwal MLA B Ramanatha Rai who addressed the agitators, said such an inhuman act has made the civil society hang its head in shame and said the protest was organized to create  an awakening in the society with a view to curb such acts.

 

Congress Protest


Former MLA Rukmaya Poojari  condemned the incident in the strongest possible words and said  an appeal would be made to the lawyers’ fraternity not to take up the case of the accused. Congress leader Harikrishna Bantwal, District Yuva JD(S) President Krishnappa Poojari, and others spoke on the occasion.

ZP Members Chandraprakash Shetty, Mamatha Gatti, MS Mohammad Chennappa Kotian, TP Vice President Anand Shambhur and others were present.

Later, a Congress delegation led by ZP member Mamatha Gatti  met the Tahsildar and  submitted a memorandum to the government through the Tahsildar demanding stern punishment to the accused Satish  and maximum compensation to the bereaved family.
