Leaders accuse cops of reluctance to accept complaints of atrocities on Dalits

Mangaluru, Feb 3, 2015 : A serious allegation that the police were reluctant to register  complaints of atrocities  on Dalits and also to initiate action against the accused,  was heard at the SC/ST Grievance Redressal Meeting held at the SP office.

 Dalit leaders SP Anand and Shekhar  narrated the woes of Dalits and the exploitations suffered by them. Some  leaders even accused the police of dilly dallying to accept complaints of atrocities and questioned the relevance of such  meetings if atrocities on Dalits cannot be prevented.

Responding to the complaints, SP Dr Sharanappa said the police were serving sincerely within the legal framework and also defended his personnel saying there has been no dereliction of duty on their part. He also stated that the police have taken action against those responsible for atrocities on Dalits. He further made it clear that the Department has not been biased.
