Kundapura, Oct 4, 2025: Ignoring safety precautions, two Bangalore-based engineering students were rescued by the Coastal Control Unit (KND) staff after being swept away by strong waves at Maravanthe Beach on Friday.
In the evening, a group of five engineering students from Bangalore had arrived at Maravanthe Beach for a leisure trip. While playing near the sea in front of the Marswami Temple, two of them were carried away by the waves. Although entering the water in this area is prohibited, the students had neglected the warning.
The two students got into trouble after being dragged a short distance by the strong currents. KND personnel Nishanth and Vishnu immediately rushed to the spot and risked their lives to rescue them. Reports suggest that one of the students was carried about 100 meters into the sea before being safely brought back to shore.
Following the incident, Coastal Security Police ASI Manjunath, staff members Savita and Raghavendra, Gangolli Police Inspector Pavan Nayak, and highway patrol personnel visited the site for inspection and assessment.
