Kundapura: Dowry harassment accused held in West Bengal after 10 years

Kundapura, Mar 4, 2026: The Kundapura Rural Police have arrested a 44-year-old man who had been absconding for the past 10 years in connection with a dowry harassment case. The accused, Shashikant Shetty from Akkunje in Siddapur village, was taken into custody in West Bengal.

According to police, Shetty married a local woman in 2015. However, the marriage reportedly collapsed within six months due to dowry-related issues. Following a complaint filed by his wife, a case was registered at the Kundapura Rural Police Station.


Abscond

A police team led by ASI Shankar S. and Head Constable Ashok Shetty traced the accused to Baninathpur in Murshidabad district of West Bengal and arrested him.

During the investigation, it was revealed that he had married another woman there. The accused was produced before the First Civil Judge and JMFC Court in Kundapura, which remanded him to judicial custody. He has been lodged in the district prison in Hiriyadka.
