Kundapur: Woman loses Rs 11.92 lakh in online gift scam

Kundapur, Oct 9, 2025: A case has been registered at the Kundapur police station after a woman was cheated of Rs 11.92 lakh by cyber fraudsters in an online gift scam.

According to police, Abhinaya (40) from Hosa Badakere in Koteshwara village received a Facebook message in May from a person identifying himself as Daniel Michael. He claimed he would send her a mobile phone, a bag, and $50,000 (around Rs 56 lakh) as a gift.

The fraudster then told her that to receive the gift, she needed to pay certain charges. Believing him, Abhinaya transferred a total of Rs 11,92,500 in multiple transactions. However, she neither received any gift nor got her money back, leading her to file a complaint.
