Kundapur: Woman killed after falling from scooter, run over by private bus on NH-66

Kundapur, Aug 4, 2025: A tragic road accident occurred on Sunday afternoon near Batradi Cross, close to Santhe Market on National Highway-66 in Kundapur. A woman died after falling from a moving scooter and being hit by a private bus.

The deceased has been identified as Jalaja (64), a resident of Korgi in Kundapur taluk and wife of Manja.

According to reports, Manja was riding a moped with his wife Jalaja as a pillion. They were returning to their home in Korgi around 12:30 p.m. from their nephew’s house in Angalli via NH-66.

As they approached Batradi near Santhe Market, a private bus named Mahaveer, driven by Prasanna and heading from Bhatkal to Kundapur, attempted to overtake them. During the maneuver, the bus went out of control, causing Jalaja to fall from the moped onto the road. Tragically, the bus’s rear wheel ran over her neck, killing her on the spot.

Reports also indicate that this bus had faced issues earlier. On Saturday night, it was parked at a petrol pump in Bhatkal when it unexpectedly started moving on its own and crashed into an electric pole, damaging its front, including the windshield. While being driven to Udupi for repairs on Sunday, it met with this second fatal accident in Kundapur.

A case has been registered at the Kundapur Traffic Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
