Kundapur, Aug 8, 2025: Gangolli police have arrested the prime accused in a recent cattle theft case. Mohammed Ansar (32) was nabbed at Kulur in Mangaluru on August 7 along with the car used in the crime.
The case relates to the July 31 incident in which a cow lying by the roadside near Bombay Bazaar, Mail Gangolli, was forcibly loaded into a car and taken away. A special police team was formed to trace the culprits.
Ansar, who has 13 cases registered against him across Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Chikkamagaluru, and Hassan districts, was produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody. Police are searching for three more accused in the case.
The operation was conducted under the guidance of SP Hariram Shankar and additional SP Sudhakar Naik, with Kundapur DySP H D Kulkarni and circle inspector Jayaram Gowda supervising. Gangolli sub-inspectors Pavan Nayak and Basavaraj Kanashetty, along with several staff members, took part in the operation. SP Shankar commended the team for the swift arrest.
It may be recalled that on August 5, near the Hejmady toll gate, the suspects in this and another cattle theft case allegedly attempted to run over the Gangolli police while being pursued.
