Kundapur : Minister Sorake hands over cheque of Rs 3 lakhs to Ratna Kottary family

Kundapur, July 28, 2015:  A cheque amounting to Rs 3 lakhs was handed over to the family of Ratna Kottary, a student of Shiroor PU  College who died under suspicious circumstances on her way home from college last  year. State Urban Development Minister and Udupi District in-charge Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake handed over the cheque to Ratna’s parents.

 

A cheque amounting to Rs 3 lakhs was handed over to the family of Ratna Kottary, a student of Shiroor PU  College who died under suspicious circumstances on her way home from college last  year.


In his address, the Minister said the government was leaving no stone unturned in striving to ensure protection of  girls  from villages. He said he was aware that incidents like the Ratna Kottary death case has been a cause of great concern for families of young girls living in villages.

As the exact cause of Ratna’s death was not known, there was some delay in disbursal of compensation, Sorake clarified. The Minister also stated that the investigation into the case was underway.

K Gopal Poojary, MLA of Byndoor said he had made an appeal to the CM during the Belagavi session to release  the compensation from his CM’s Relief Fund and thanked Siddaramaiah for the positive response.

 Gram Panchayat President Dilshad Begum, Vice President Nagesh Mogaveera,  Tahsildar Gayatri Nayak and many others were present.
