Kundapur, Aug 4, 2026: A major fire, suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit, completely gutted a grocery store near Sri Brahmasthana at Tekkatte on National Highway 66 in the early hours of Tuesday, resulting in an estimated loss of over ₹40 lakh.
The incident occurred at around 1.30 a.m. at Guru Brahma General Store. According to reports, the shop owner, Santosh, had closed the store and returned home as usual when the fire suddenly broke out. Within minutes, the flames spread rapidly, engulfing the entire premises.
The blaze destroyed grocery stocks worth several lakhs, along with refrigerators, furniture, and nearly all other items inside the shop. The total loss is estimated to exceed ₹40 lakh.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire may have originated due to an electrical short circuit in one of the three or more refrigerators installed inside the store.
On receiving information about the incident, personnel from the Kundapur Fire and Emergency Services rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control after an extensive firefighting operation.
Further investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
