Kundapur: Fishing boat sinks in Gangolli estuary; six fishermen rescued

Kundapur, Sep 2, 2026: A fishing boat heading out to sea was caught in strong currents and sank in the Gangolli estuary area on Wednesday. Six fishermen on board were safely rescued.

The fishermen were rescued promptly following the incident. The sunken boat was later brought back to the shore.

The incident comes just a week after another fishing boat sank in the same Gangolli estuary after being caught in high waves. At that time, all 27 fishermen aboard the vessel were rescued safely following a swift rescue operation.

With another boat getting into trouble in the same area before the previous incident has even faded from memory, concerns have grown among local fishermen. The repeated accidents in the Gangolli estuary have raised questions about safety measures for fishing vessels operating in the area.
