Kundapur: 45-year-old businessman shot dead; accused on the run

Kundapur, Jul 31, 2026: A 45-year-old businessman was shot dead in the early hours of Friday in front of the Holy Rosary Church on Church Road in Kundapur. The incident occurred at around 3.30 a.m.

The deceased has been identified as Ivan Richard Mascarenhas (45), a native of Kachoor in Barkur.

According to police, Ivan was involved in several business ventures. He was travelling in a car with a woman when the attack took place. The assailant allegedly approached the vehicle and opened fire at close range before fleeing the scene. Ivan suffered severe bleeding and died on the spot.

The woman accompanying the victim has reportedly identified the accused, and police have launched a search to trace the absconding suspect.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the murder may have been linked to financial or other business-related disputes.

Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar, Additional SP Sudhakar Nayak, DySP H.D. Kulkarni, Kundapur Town Police Inspector Jairam Gowda, PSIs Nanja Nayak, Pushpa, Anoop Nayak, and other police officials visited the crime scene. A forensic and crime investigation team also inspected the spot and is assisting in the investigation.
