The incident occurred late on the night of November 4 near the Kumaradhara bridge at the famous pilgrimage centre of Kukke Subrahmanya.
The woman, who is from Udupi, reportedly jumped into the river from the bridge after becoming distressed over family-related issues.
Soon after she entered the water, a crocodile in the river bit her. Terrified and in pain, the woman began screaming for help from the middle of the river.
