Kudroli Gokarnatheshwara Temple appoints two widows as priests: Poojary

Mangalore, Oct 3, 2013: Former Union Minister B Janardhana Poojary said that Kudroli Gokarnatheshwara Temple has appointed two widows as the priest and will perform puja from Oct 6, Sunday.


Speaking at the press meet held at Press Club on Oct 3, Thursday he said that on Oct 6, these two women priests, who have been trained from past four months will enter the Shiva and Annapoorneshwari sanctum sanctorum and perform the puja accompanied by chande and vaadya.

Later they will install the idol of Lord Dattatreya below the Peepal tree and inaugurate it by lighting the traditional lamp. It will be followed by Maha Annasantharpana to the devotees. 


Poojary said that the decision of appointing the women as priests with the aim to give equal rights to the women. Further this action may help to change the view of men on the women, he said. 


He also recalled that Kudroli Temple was first to allow the devotees from low caste to enter into the temple. In coming days, this will also become the role model to other temples.


On October 5, Saturday at 11 am installation of the goddess Sharada, Navadurgas and Lord Ganesha will be held and City entrepreneur Ramesh Kumar and Urmila Ramesh Kumar of Janata Construction Co. and Deepa Comforts group will inaugurate it by lighting the lamp, he said.


On October 12, the book ‘Mansiddhare Marga’ authored by temple development committee member B Devdas Contractor will be released at Santhoshi Kalamantapa Auditorium.
