Mangalore, June 21, 2012: Delivering the presidential address at the inauguration ceremony of Konkani Sahithya Ratha at Lourdes Central School in Bejai on Thursday, Kasargod Chinna, the president of the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, revealed the academy’s plan to organize a Konkani Students’ and Youth Conference to promote Konkani language and culture among the youth and bring all Konkani-speaking communities under one umbrella.
He also said that the academy plans to hold state level conventions to promote different aspects of Konkani culture such as art, music, theatre, and so on.
Speaking about the 2-day Konkani Sahithya Ratha, he said that that it will visit 120 schools across the city and distribute Konkani books among them.
Narendra Nayak, president of Expert Education Institution, flagged off the ratha. The chief guest of the occasion was DDPI Moses Jayashekar, who said that 61 students have successfully passed their SSLC with Konkani as the third language.
