Mangalore, Sep 2, 2012: The Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy felicitated Babitha D’Sa, the popular singer, and Muralidhar Kamath, the music composer, for their contributions to Konkani music, on September 1, Saturday at the academy’s cultural centre in Mangalore.
Speaking on the occasion, President Kasargod Chinna lauded the award winners for their contributions to Konkani music.
He also announced that Konkani Teachers’ Day will be held on September 5 in honor of those who teach Konkani in various schools in Mangalore as well as Kumta. The Konkani Utsav will be held from Nov 21 – 15, he announced, adding that it will comprise 3 hours of entertainment with folk presentations, art, drama, and music by Konkani children, youth, and women.
He also urged the youth to get more involved in the activities of the academy.
The felicitation ceremony was inaugurated by Arun Raj Rodrigues, renowned orator and dramatist. Among the dignitaries on the dais were Registrar Dr. Devdas Pai and former president of Konkani Cultural Sangha Mangalore M. R. Kamath. Eric Ozario and Venkatesh Baliga were also present.
Lavita Lobo, Arthur Lobo, Dylan, Sanjoy Rodrigues, and others entertained the audience.
