Mangalore, Dec 12, 2011 : The title of Konkani Abolem was conferred on Joyce Ozario (58), the wife of Eric Ozario of Mandd Sobhann, the Konkani cultural organization, on Dec 11 Sunday on the occasion of the Global Konkani Music Awards ceremony organized by Mandd Sobhann in Kalaangan.

The title was conferred on Mrs. Ozario for rendering hundreds of Konkani songs and the popular number Abolem in particular.

V. Manohar, the Kannada music director, conferred the title on Mrs. Ozario. He honored her with a saree, a shawl, a memento, and a citation. Roy Castelino, the president of the Konkani Prachar Andolen, and Stany Alvares, the president of Mandd Sobhann, were present on the occasion.

Titus Noronha read out the citation and introduced Mrs. Ozario to the audience. Stating that Joyce is a talented singer, he said that Konkan Kogul Wilfy Rebimbus had identified her talent when she was just 12 years old. Later, she was selected to sing for the first Wilfy Nite. Joyce has been singing for the past 47 years, having participated in a number of baila shows and Mandd Sobhann events around the world.

Mr. and Mrs. Ozario have two children—the eldest Rashmi, who is now the wife of music director Alwyn Fernandes, and Ritesh Kiran, a musician.
