Kodagu: Missing two-year-old found safe in coffee estate after night-long search

Kodagu, December 2, 2025: A two-year-old girl who had gone missing from a coffee estate in Kodagu was found safe on Sunday, bringing relief to her family and villagers.

The heart-wrenching incident occurred at Kongana village in Virajpet taluk. The child, Sunanya, daughter of Sunil and Nagini—who work in the estate owned by Shari Ganapathy—went missing on Saturday evening. After having dinner, the mother reportedly sat checking her mobile phone, during which time the child wandered away.

Despite an immediate search, the girl could not be traced on Saturday. Throughout the night, local residents and Forest Department personnel continued searching the plantation. Trained dogs were also brought in to assist in the operation.

On Sunday, a pet dog named Oreo, owned by Anil Kalappa, finally located the child deep inside the plantation. The toddler had spent the entire night in the estate but was found unharmed. She was reunited with her emotional mother soon after.

The recovery of little Sunanya has brought immense relief to the Jenu Kuruba family and the entire village.
