Kharge distributes Arogya cards among beneficiaries

Udupi, Nov 27, 2011: Mallikarjun Kharge, the union labour minister, distributed Manipal Arogya cards among beneficiaries in DK district on Nov 26 Saturday at a program held jointly by the Mogaveera Yuva Sanghatane, G. Shankar Family Trust, and Manipal University. 


In his address, Kharge said that the central government’s Arogya Swastha Bheema Yojana will be extended to other labourers too. Stating that the central government is bearing 75 percent of the costs of this project while the state government is bearing 25 percent, he said that each beneficiary will receive Rs. 30,000 each.

Revealing statistics, he said that of the 7 crore people in 30 districts, this scheme has 1.25 crore beneficiaries, but only 1.5 of them have received the benefits because the state government is just not taking it seriously. 


Kharge also said that the centre has allotted Rs. 4000 crore under the labour ministry for a wide range of projects and development works. 


MLA Raghupathi Bhat presided over the event. 


Dr. Shripathi Rao, the dean of Manipal KMC, DC Dr. Reju, Karkala MLA Gopal Bhandary, MLA Lalaji Mendon, MLC Kota Shrinivas Poojary, ZP President Shankar Poojary, Yashpal Suvarna, Suresh R. Kanchan, Anand C. Kunder, Thimma Marakala, Keshava Kunder, Sathish Nayak, and Sanjeeva M. Were also present. 


In his keynote address, G. Shankar urged Kharge to extend the benefits of the Arogya project.


Around 10,000 families received Manipal Arogya Cards.
