Mangalore, July 28, 2013: State Minister for Health and Family Welfare UT Khader has promised to develop Lady Goschen and Government Wenlock Hospitals in Mangalore as model hospitals.
Speaking at a review meeting after visiting the Lady Goschen Hospital on July 27, Saturday, the minister said the Union Government has sanctioned Rs 10 crore to upgrade Lady Goschen Hospital into a 500 bedded hospital with Neo-Intensive Care Unit.
He also stated that the government would appoint 336 doctors, 1400 C group employees and 3000 D group employees to the two hospitals soon.
On compulsory service in rural areas for medical graduates, the minister said the rule would go a long way in solving the problems arising due to shortage of medical staff in rural areas. At the same time the minister said the rule cannot be imposed on students who pursue MBBS under Management quota.
Dr Shakuntala, Medical Superintendent of Lady Goschen Hospital, Dr Shivakumar, District Health Officer, Dr MV Prabhu, Dean of KMC and others were present.
