Kavita Trust to confer Mathaias Family Poetry Award on Shivananda Shenoy

shivanand shenoyMangalore, Dec 12, 2011: Kavita Trust, which has been promoting Konkani poetry ever since its inception, will confer the latest Mathaias Family Poetry Award on Shivananda Shenoy of Kottayam. 


The award comprises Rs. 10,000, a memento, and a citation and will be conferred on Mr. Shenoy on Jan 8, 2012 at Moodubelle on the occasion of Kavita Fest 2012 by Dr. Kiran Budkuely, an associate professor of English at Goa University, who will be chief guest of the event. 


About Mr. Shenoy 


Mr. Shenoy, a retired engineer from Kochi Port Trust, writes in Malayalam as well as Konkani. Some of his anthologies of poetry are titled Changpannache Sant and Kir Kir. He has also published an anthology of Malayalam short stories. His Malayalam and Konkani poems have been published in various periodicals in Kerala, Karnataka, and Goa since 1968. 


Currently, Mr. Shenoy is the member of the Konkani Advisory Board, Sahithya Academy in New Delhi. 


Kavita Fest 


The 6th Kavita Fest will be inaugurated by Ramesh Veluskar, the eminent poet and is expected to attract delegates from Bangalore, Goa, Mumbai, Middle East, and Kerala. 


Ranjit Gogoi and his team from Assam will perform Bihu songs and dances under the banner “Loka – the many voices,” sponsored by the Sahithya Academy, New Delhi.
