Kaup police nab Garuda gang member absconding for 7 months in Chikkamagaluru

Kaup, Sep 20, 2025: Kaup police have arrested Mohammed Asif (35), a resident of Muslim Keri, Kundapur, and member of the Garuda gang, who had been absconding for seven months after failing to appear before the Udupi second additional district and sessions court for trial.

Several criminal cases are pending against Asif, including multiple cases registered at Kaup police station, four at Gangolli station, and two each at Byndoor, Kankanady (Mangaluru), and Uppinangady stations.

Since February 2025, Asif had been in hiding and was untraceable at the address he had provided to the court. Acting on credible information, Kaup police personnel Mohammed Rafiq, Mohan Chandra, and Ganesh Shetty tracked him down and arrested him on September 18 at Gauri Kaluve in Chikkamagaluru city.

He was produced before the Udupi second additional district and sessions court, which remanded him to judicial custody till October 16. Following the court’s order, he has been lodged at Hiriyadka district prison.
