Kaup: Passenger Dies After Falling Out of Bus During Negligent Overtaking on NH-66

Kaup, Nov 23, 2025: A 52-year-old man travelling in a private express bus from Mangaluru to Udupi died after he fell out of the vehicle at Uchila on NH-66 on Saturday.

The victim, Sakendra Poojary, a resident of Kapu Padugrama and hotel employee in Mangaluru, reportedly stood near the front door to alight when the driver suddenly swerved right while attempting to overtake an oncoming vehicle. The abrupt manoeuvre threw him out of the bus, causing fatal head injuries after he hit the road divider.

Locals provided first aid and rushed him to the Udupi district hospital, where he was declared dead.

Sakendra, who was unmarried, is survived by a brother and sister. Padubidri police have booked the bus driver for negligent driving.
