Kaup: Fishermen assaulted, fish looted in mid sea

Mangaluru, Jan 31, 2024: A shocking incident wherein fishermen who were returning after fishing were attacked and fish worth lakhs of rupees stolen, has been reported from mid sea, around 10 nautical miles away from the Kaup Light House on the morning of January 30.

 

A fisherman named Parvathayya Kondayya has sustained serious injuries in the assault while Raghuramayya, Shivaraj and Sheenu have sustained minor injuries.

A trawl boat owned by Mohammad Mustafa of Mangaluru had ventured into fishing on January 27 with six fishermen of Andhra origin. On their return journey on January 30, seven to eight men of the nearly 15-20 men in a purse-seine boat named Hanuma Jyothi forcibly entered the trawl boat, laid their hands on the fish boxes and transferred them to their boat.

Fishermen who tried to prevent them were assaulted and robbed of their four mobile phones.

A complaint has been lodged in Kaup police station.
