Kasargod, Sept 12, 2025: Two workers were killed after a crane collapsed during national highway construction work at Mogral Puttur on Thursday afternoon.

The deceased have been identified as Akshay (30) of Vadagara, Kozhikode, and Ashwin (30). Akshay succumbed to injuries at Kumbla Hospital, while Ashwin died while undergoing treatment in Mangaluru.

Crane accident

The accident occurred while the workers were installing electric lights on the highway using a crane. Both were inside the crane’s box when it suddenly detached and crashed onto the service road. Despite being rushed to hospitals with severe injuries, doctors were unable to save their lives.

The bodies have been placed at the Kasargod General Hospital mortuary for post-mortem before being handed over to their families.

This incident comes just days after another fatal mishap at the Mangalawada Cherkala flyover, where a worker from Assam, Rakhy Bul Haq (27), died after a fall during duty.
