Kasargod: Two children drown in pond, third critically injured

Kasargod, May 22, 2025: In a tragic incident, two children lost their lives after drowning in a pond at Manikkoth in Kanhangad yesterday. A third child is in critical condition and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital.

The victims have been identified as Afaz (9), son of Azeez from Palekki, and Anwar (11), son of Haidar. Anwar’s brother, Hashim, who was also involved in the incident, has been admitted to a hospital in Mangaluru in serious condition.

The tragedy unfolded around 4 p.m. when the children were bathing in a pond located near the Palekki mosque in Manikkoth.

Despite efforts by locals, fire and emergency personnel, and the police to rescue the children, Afaz and Anwar could not be saved. Their bodies have been moved to the district hospital mortuary.
