Kasargod, July 18, 2013 : Fear gripped residents of Bevinje near Kasargod following July 18, Thursday morning’s incident wherein some unidentified bike bound assailants opened fire at the house of Mohammad Kunhi, a PWD contractor.
The incident occurred in the wee hours at around 5.15 am when Kunhi and his son Arafat were away at the mosque for the morning prayers. The two ladies in the house-Kunhi’s wife and mother-in-law screamed on hearing the gun shots. One of the bullets smashed the window panes and hit against the wall of the hall. However, no one was hurt. The miscreants took to their heels sensing danger when the women raised an alarm. Some people said they escaped towards Cherkala through an inner road.
This is the second shoot-out in the contractor’s house. In an earlier instance on June 25, 2010, miscreants opened fire at the house in a similar fashion before fleeing. Underworld elements from Mangalore area said to be behind the incident.
