Kasargod: Badiyadka telephone Exchange Road to be named after Anil Kumble

Mangalore, Jun 24: Kumble Gram Panchayat plans to arrange a warm public reception for Indian cricket icon Anil Kumble on June 27, Sunday. Anil will visit his native place Kumble soon. This is the first public felicitation arranged for him in his native place, said K Prashanth of Organising Committee.

Speaking at the press meet held at press club on June 24, Thursday, he said that Anil Kumble, considered to be an Indian cricket hero, has made spectacular achievements on the field. The captain of Indian test cricket, he specializes in right arm leg spin, leg break, and a mixture of flippers. He has won the third largest number of wickets in the history of Indian test cricket and ranks as the highest wicket taker in the country. Though retired, he serves the Bangalore Royal Challengers in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the athlete’s commission of the world anti-doping agency.  


Kumble Gram Panchayat has resolved to rename the Badiadka Telephone Exchange Road as Anil Kumble Road and have it inaugurated by the cricket icon himself. On this occasion, the MP of Kasargod P. Karunakaran will confer honorary citizenship on Kumble. Certain prominent personalities will also honor Kumble.


Prashanth also said that, the roads upto 100 metres have been completed with interlocks for the inaugural and rest of the work will be extended to 450 meters which will meet the expense of Rs 6-8 lakhs, after the programme.


MLA CH Kunhambu, MLA CT Ahammed Ali, MLA K V Kunhiraman, MLA UT Khader, MLA B Ramanath Rai, MLA Yogish Bhat, Former MP I Rama Rai and other dignitaries will participate as the chief guests.


Ashraff Kodiyamma, general secreatry, organising committee and B N Suresh, co-ordinator, Organising Committee were present at the press meet.
