Kasargod : 4 die as lorry plunges into 150 ft deep gorge

Kasargod, Jan 28, 2014 : A lorry carrying bore well drilling machine  fell into a nearly 150 feet deep roadside gorge at Chittakar near Kanhangad on January 26, Sunday night claiming the lives of four persons. Nine others sustained injuries in the mishap.

The deceased  have been identified as  Shambhu (20), Vaishak(20), Ramlal(19) and Rangaraju(19) all from Chattisgarh. The injured including the lorry driver Palaniswamy of Tamil Nadu have been admitted to Pariyaram Medical College Hospital. The condition of three of them is said to be critical.

The mishap occurred when the lorry was heading towards Malom form Cherupuzha to dig a borewell. As it was passing through a slopy area, the driver lost control over the vehicle resulting in the tragedy.

Fire brigade personnel as well as the locals  assisted the police in the rescue operations and shifting the injured to hospital.
