Kasaragod: Youth dies after falling into well; brother who jumped in to rescue him saved

Kasaragod, Oct 20, 2025: A tragic incident occurred on Sunday night at Narayanamangalam near Kumbla, where a young man died after falling into a well. His brother, who jumped in to rescue him, was saved by the fire and rescue personnel.

The deceased has been identified as Vivek Shetty (28) of Narayanamangalam.

The incident took place around 9 p.m. When Vivek accidentally fell into the well, his brother Tejas jumped in to save him but got trapped inside. Locals and family members tried to pull them out but were unsuccessful. Firefighters from Uppala arrived at the spot and rescued both brothers.

Vivek was rushed to the Kumbla hospital but could not be saved. His body has been kept at the Kasaragod General Hospital mortuary for post-mortem and will be handed over to relatives afterward.

The deceased was working as a Senior Clerk in the Legal Metrology Department in Kasaragod. He had secured the government job four years ago under the dependent quota and had been attending work regularly.
