Kasaragod: Missing woman found dead in pond, probe underway

Kasaragod, Jul 17, 2026: A 48-year-old woman drowned in a pond at Mujungavu near Kumbla on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as M. Sunitha, wife of Ramakrishna, a resident near Edanad Bank in Seethangoli.

According to family members, Sunitha went to bed on Wednesday night but was found missing when the family woke up on Thursday morning. Despite an extensive search in the surrounding areas, she could not be located, prompting the family to file a missing person complaint with the Kumbla Police.

While investigating the complaint, police discovered a body floating in a pond near the Mujungavu temple on Thursday evening. Personnel from the Fire and Rescue Services rushed to the spot and retrieved the body from the water.

The body was later shifted to Kasaragod General Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Kumbla Police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.
