Kasaragod: Class 8 student drowns while bathing in pond with friends

Kasaragod, August 12, 2026: A tragic incident occurred in Uppala where a Class 8 student drowned while bathing in a pond with his friends.

The deceased has been identified as 13-year-old Abubakar Ahsan, son of Ali and Sulaikha of Peringadi in Uppala. He was a Class 8 student at Mangalpady Government High School.

The incident occurred on Tuesday evening, August 11. Abubakar had gone to a pond near his house to bathe with his friends. After finishing their bath, the other children returned home, but Abubakar did not return. Concerned family members and local residents searched the surrounding areas but could not find him.

Later, CCTV footage from the nearby area was examined, which indicated that Abubakar had drowned in the pond.

Following this, local residents and fire and rescue personnel from Uppala launched a search operation in the pond. His body was recovered from the water late at night.

He was immediately taken to a hospital, where doctors examined him and declared him dead. His body has been kept at the mortuary of Mangalpady Taluk Hospital.

A case has been registered at the Manjeshwar Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
