Karnataka extends lockdown 3.0 rules till May 19

Bengaluru, May 17, 2020: Awaiting new central guidelines, the Karnataka government has extended the lockdown for two more days till May 19, according to an official, here on Sunday.

"The lockdown has been extended across the state for two days from Monday till May 19 as new guidelines from the central government are awaited," said Karnataka Chief Secretary T.M Vijay Bhaskar in a letter in Kannada to the Deputy Commissioners and the police superintendent of all the 30 districts.

The third 14-day lockdown was enforced on May 4 till May 17 after the second 18-day lockdown lapsed on May 3. The first lockdown was enforced on the midnight of March 24 for 21 days till April 14 to contain the coronavirus spread across the country.

The Chief Secretary asked the officials to ensure that all the lockdown norms were strictly enforced till further order or till May 19 midnight.

Going by some hints in the last few days, there could a partial revival of public transport. The Bangalore Metropolitan Road transport corporation (BMTC) began screening & training its staff along with Sanitisation of buses that have been lying in the depot for around two months now. Only non AC buses could hit the streets operating with social distancing within the bus as well.

A final decision is expected to be taken after a meeting scheduled  between the chief secretaries of all states with the cabinet secretary takes place at 9pm on May 17th.
