Bengaluru, July 9, 2026: Online self-enumeration of voters under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls has gained momentum in Karnataka after initial technical glitches caused by data mismatches were rectified.
According to Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer V. Anbukumar, more than 1.66 lakh voters, accounting for 0.30 per cent of the electorate, had submitted their forms online as of Wednesday, July 8.
The self-enumeration process began on June 30 and will remain open until July 29.
The online system had initially faced problems due to minor discrepancies between names in electoral rolls and Aadhaar records, such as extra spaces or punctuation marks between initials, preventing voters from accessing the enumeration form.
Election officials said the software has now been upgraded to ignore such minor differences. However, voters whose names show major mismatches between their voter ID and Aadhaar details will have to submit their forms offline.
FAQs on SIR Online Self-Enumeration
Can the same mobile number be used for multiple voters to submit the SIR online form?
* No. The Election Commission of India (ECI) requires each online enumeration form to be linked to a unique mobile number associated with the respective Elector Photo Identity Card (EPIC). The online submission process uses an Aadhaar-based electronic signature (e-sign) system that sends a one-time password (OTP) to the authenticated individual’s registered mobile number.
Is the process complete after submitting the form online?
* No. Online submission does not complete the enumeration process. The Booth-Level Officer (BLO) must still conduct physical verification of the voter’s residence. Sharing the online reference number with the BLO helps locate the digital record on the ECINet app, avoids duplicate manual entries and removes the voter’s name from the pending verification list.
Can a BLO modify an online enumeration form after submission?
* No. A BLO cannot edit or alter information submitted through the online SIR form. Once submitted, the form is legally locked and secured using the voter’s Aadhaar-based electronic signature.
