Karkala, Dec 11, 2013 : Two women who were allegedly propagating Christianity in Nitte Kalambady area were taken into custody by the police on December 10, Tuesday and later released after making them sign a bond.
This incident has been reported close on the heels of the detention of 13 men from Gujarat who were seen in Nallur Peralke area a few days ago and were engaged in the task of disseminating Islamic ideals. Even they were released after an enquiry.
The two women who were taken into custody on Tuesday were identified as Indu Shekhar and Chitra. Both were found distributing hand outs and booklets on Christianity in Nitte Kalambadipadavu. It is learnt, the duo had visited the house of one Amaravani and had offered the family members some handouts after persuading them for conversion. As the news spread like wild fire Bhajrangdal activists rushed to the spot. The Rural Police too wasted no time and took the two women to custody. Later the two women were let free after they signed a bond stating “We have come not to convert anyone, but only to propagate our religion.”
Hindu outfits angry : Meanwhile, the Karkala unit of the VHP and the Bhajrangdal have condemned the failure of the police to take action against the duo even when there was a systematic racket of conversion of innocent Hindus to Islam and Christianity. Mahesh Bailur, Taluk Convenor of Bhajrangdal has said the organisations would resort to protest against police inaction.
