Karkala, Sep 13, 2025: A 29-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly snatching a woman’s gold chain after posing as a supervisor in Karkala.
The accused, identified as Sunil Ramesh Lamani, a resident of Savadatti, was taken into custody by police, who also recovered the stolen chain.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, September 9, around 4:30 pm at the residence of Kumuda Shetty in Ellare village, Karkala taluk. The accused, introducing himself as a supervisor from Karkala, enquired whether she owned another house in the area and if her residence was equipped with CCTV cameras. After lingering for a while, as evening approached, he suddenly grabbed her by the neck and snatched a 25-gram rope chain before fleeing.
In her attempt to resist, Kumuda fell and sustained injuries to her forehead, head, right hand, and leg. She was rushed to a hospital in Karkala by Satish Poojary and received treatment.
Following her complaint at Ajekaru police station, a case was registered and investigation launched under the guidance of CPI Karkala D Manjappa. A team led by PSI Mahesh and his staff tracked down and arrested the accused. He was later produced before court.
